Merit Scholarship Program for International Students

is offered by Quebec’s provincial government. It supports international students in post-secondary study at the university, college, and vocational school levels. Students are encouraged to enter programs that offer strong job and research prospects.听

, recipients receive:

  • A scholarship (amount varies by institution type)
  • Health insurance coverage

Some students also receive an exemption from the differential tuition fees paid by international students (either through or based on .)

College-level Technical Training

  • Scholarship Amount: C$14,000 per year (renewable)
  • Level of Study: CEGEP or private college

Students in a full-time technical training program who will graduate with a Diploma of College Studies are eligible. Interested students should contact their target CEGEPs and/or colleges for more details and to apply. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years, but requires yearly re-application.

University

  • Scholarship Amounts:聽
    • Doctoral research programs: C$25,000 per year (renewable)
    • Postdoctoral fellows: C$35,000 (non-renewable)
    • Short-term research or professional development stays (up to four months): C$3,000 per month
  • Level of Study: Postgraduate

International students studying or researching at a university in Quebec are eligible to apply if they鈥檙e in a doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship, or embarking on a research or professional development stay. Universities submit these applications for assessment, so interested students should for more information.

Vocational Training

  • Scholarship Amount: C$14,000鈥揅$26,600 (varies by program length)
  • Level of Study: Vocational schools
  • Eligibility Priority to Students From: Brazil, China, India, Japan, Mexico, and member countries of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, except France

Students in full-time studies in a vocational training program who will graduate with either a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) or a DVS plus an (AVS) may apply. Eligible students may apply directly and learn more on the .

Gaston-Miron Bursary

  • Scholarship Amount: C$5,000
  • Level of Study: Postgraduate (master’s/PhD)

Students who receive the may use it to complete a research internship on Quebec’s literature and culture. International students who complete this internship under the supervision of select researchers may also be eligible for an additional C$1,500 scholarship. Applicants must provide a letter with their application outlining the importance of this internship to their research, and the influence of Quebec’s culture in your community.

Anne Vall茅e Ecological Fund

  • Scholarship Amount: C$1,500
  • Level of Study: Postgraduate (master’s/PhD)

The was established in honour of Anne Vall茅e, a biologist from Quebec who studied at Laval University. One scholarship is available to a postgraduate student in Quebec, and another in British Columbia. Students whose field research focuses on animal ecology and how it relates to the impact of human activities like forestry or agriculture, are eligible to apply.
