Provincial Scholarships for
International Students in Atlantic Canada

International students benefit from a broad range of career options and international study experience, but it can be a considerable investment of time and resources. Luckily, scholarships for international students can reduce the financial cost.听

Here, we’ll explore scholarships open to multiple universities and colleges in the Atlantic Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.听

Looking into studying abroad? Research your target schools to learn what scholarships they offer. Many institutions have dedicated scholarships for international students. Other scholarships are open to local and international students. If you’ve looked at a scholarship’s eligibility criteria and still aren’t sure if you can apply, reach out to the scholarship contact. The scholarships below are open to multiple schools within each province, so they are good ones to bookmark early. As you build your list of target schools, look at scholarships open to international students at those specific schools. Compiling a list of due dates and what supporting documents they require can help you stay organized.听

Don’t Forget: Before you send in your scholarship applications, ask someone to read them. That second read-through might catch something you’ve missed, or they can add something to help your answers stand out.听

Regional Scholarships

Atlantic Canada Credit Unions Bursary Program

  • Scholarship Amount: C$500
  • Level of Study: Undergraduate (community college)

50 bursaries are awarded yearly across the Atlantic provinces to students at the following community colleges:

  • Bursaries are awarded to eight students at the New Brunswick Community College.听
  • Students at Newfoundland and Labrador’s College of the North Atlantic聽may apply for one of eight awards.听
  • In Prince Edward Island, Holland College students are eligible for one of eight awards.听
  • Two students at each of Nova Scotia Community College’s 13 campuses are awarded a C$500 bursary.听

Nurses Association of New Brunswick Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Varies; TD Insurance is C$2,500
  • Level of Study: Master’s degree

Two scholarships are : the scholarship noted above, and the TD Insurance Meloche Monnex scholarship. Both are open to students in master’s level nursing programs at the University of New Brunswick and the Universit茅 de Moncton.

Newfoundland and Labrador

IEEE Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: C$1,000
  • Level of Study: Undergraduate (terms 3 and 6)

The awards one scholarship to a student in their third term, and another scholarship to a student in their sixth term of full-time studies every year. Students must be in either the Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering programs at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The scholarship committee will assess applicants’ academic achievements and contributions to the student branch of IEEE.

Nova Scotia

While there aren鈥檛 many province-wide scholarships available to international students studying in Nova Scotia at this time, look at the scholarships offered by your target schools. Many will offer entry or academic scholarships.

Prince Edward Island

Bahamas Public School Sponsorship Programme

  • Scholarship Amount: C$9,500 to C$19,000
  • Level of Study: Undergraduate

Are you the first in your family to enter post-secondary study? You are encouraged to apply for the This scholarship is open to students from the Bahamas studying at the University of Prince Edward Island. Students studying in New Brunswick at Mount Allison University聽may also apply.
